We strive not only to touch the lives of those living within the communities we serve, but also, the lives of each and every individual CROSSROAD volunteer who embraces the global volunteering movement. CROSSROAD's unique projects provides for a twofold learning and cultural exchange experience, in which local community members are exposed to the knowledge and skilfulness of the international volunteer, and in turn, where the volunteer is immersed within a novel culture and has first-hand exposure to global issues and meaningful projects that embrace local community members. The time, energy, and efforts of a volunteer bear a continuous positive and constructive impact within the local community that he or she serves, however, the experience as a whole often has a considerably significant impact on the volunteer as well, one which does not cease to thrive once the volunteer returns home. Rather, the volunteer brings that treasured experience back to their home country with them and continues to flourish in personal discovery and growth.

History in the Making: The Birth of CROSSROAD

Prior to the conception of CROSSROAD, the founding members of CROSSROAD had worked alongside many international organisations and received a plethora of training by joining work camps and mobilising more than 7,500 international volunteers and travellers. Throughout their extensive experience in inter-cultural programs, volunteerism and social service work, the CROSSROAD founders were continuously astounded by the sheer expense of substandard volunteer travel packages that were offered by international volunteer organizations to the public - most packages well in the range of thousands of dollars. The founders became frustrated with the notion that volunteer travel was inaccessible to the vast majority given extremely high program fees and the lack of quality projects. It was their intense belief that high-quality and safe international volunteer travel should be accessible and affordable to all longing to make a change within developing countries that brought the founding members of CROSSROAD together, in which the catalyst for change within the international volunteering camp began, and CROSSROAD was born.

The founding members of CROSSROAD strongly believe that to make a change, you have to actively be a part of that change. As such, they decided that to be an effective leader and model of international volunteering development, they had be where the need is. The members decided to establish their base camp of operations in India, a country that they had previously fallen in love with during a volunteering mission, and as such, relocated their lives to a foreign land in hopes of providing aid in the lives of millions.

CROSSROAD was successfully registered in India in 2011 (Registration Identity Number: U63000HR2011PTC043838). As an avid supporter of volunteerism and the importance it bears for the communities in which it is executed, CROSSROAD had decided it was time to expand the horizon of its volunteer work from a national basis to a global one. Given the intercontinental success of CROSSROAD's volunteering programs within India, and the experience of the founders within the field of global volunteering, CROSSROAD reached further and expanded its programs to include Nepal and Sri Lanka. Today, CROSSROAD has successfully expanded worldwide and offers its safe, quality, flexible and affordable programs to aid communities in need within Cambodia, Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, South Africa, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Argentina, and Guatemala, making us one of the world's fastest growing international volunteer organizations. By 2022-2023, CROSSROAD has plans to further span the breadth of our international presence by offering our affordable and high-quality programs in Vietnam, Indonesia. The change has only begun, and CROSSROAD will not stop until the world stands united. Today, CROSSROAD has translated its dream into the reality for thousands of individuals, and is convinced that one day, it will be the reality of millions worldwide.
